A tradie website that ranks on Google has a separate page for every service and every suburb you cover, loads fast on a phone and makes it dead easy to call or request a quote. Back that up with a properly set up Google Business Profile, steady reviews and real project photos, and you're ahead of most trade sites out there.
A page for every service
One "Services" page listing everything you do won't rank for much. Google wants to show the page that best matches the search, so someone searching "spray on concrete perth" should land on a page about spray on concrete in Perth, not your home page.
When I rebuilt Spray Pave Perth's website, every service got its own page. The site now sits on page one for "spray on concrete perth" and "concrete stencil perth". Each service page should have:
- A clear H1 with the service and the main area, like "Concrete Resurfacing in Perth".
- What the job involves, how long it takes and what affects the price.
- Photos of that exact service from your own jobs.
- Answers to the questions customers ask you on site.
- A quote form and phone number without having to scroll.
A page for every suburb, with real local content
This is where tradie sites either win or go wrong. Suburb pages work. Copy-paste pages with the suburb name swapped don't, and Google treats them as doorway pages. A good suburb page has something specific to that area:
- Jobs you've done there, with photos.
- Local details that matter for your trade, like the housing types, slopes, coastal salt or soil you deal with.
- Nearby suburbs you also cover.
- Reviews from customers in that area, if you have them.
Lindsay Catlin Fencing on the Sunshine Coast has a page for every suburb serviced and ranks on page one for "Buderim fencing", "Nambour fencing", "Caloundra fencing" and "Maroochydore fencing". Spray Pave Perth has 10 area pages covering every part of Perth they work in. At a bigger scale, Chase Create has 108 suburb and service pages across 18 Sunshine Coast and Hinterland areas, plus cost guides and comparisons.
You don't need hundreds of pages on day one. Start with the suburbs that already bring you the best jobs, write those pages properly, then add more as you go.
Speed and mobile
Most people looking for a tradie are on their phone, often standing in the yard looking at the problem. If your site takes ages to load, they hit back and call the next one.
BrisBathCo's new site went from a page speed score of 29 to 100. It ranks on page one for "bathroom renovations brisbane", closed three bathroom renos worth $85K in its first month from Google alone and brought in $1.1M in qualified quotes in six months.
- Compress your photos. Huge images straight off the phone are the most common thing I see slowing tradie sites down.
- Skip heavy page builders and plugins you don't need.
- Test on your own phone on mobile data, not just on the home Wi-Fi.
- Make the phone number tap-to-call.
Make it easy to get a quote
Ranking is only half the job. The site has to turn visitors into enquiries.
- Phone number and quote button at the top of every page.
- A short quote form: name, phone, suburb and what they need. Ask for photos if it helps you quote.
- Your licence number and insurance where they apply. It builds trust before the first call.
- Real photos of you, your team and your work. No stock photos of models in spotless hard hats.
Elite Detail Specialists rebuilt with a simpler booking flow and a site that loads in under 1.5 seconds, and 30% more visitors now book.
Then make sure someone answers. A site that brings in enquiries is wasted if they sit in an inbox overnight. Hook your quote form up to an instant text-back so every enquiry hears from you straight away. I cover how in speed-to-lead and follow-up for tradies.
Google Business Profile and reviews
Your website and your Google Business Profile work together. The profile gets you into the map results, and the website backs it up.
- Link your profile to the matching page on your site.
- Keep your business name, address and phone number exactly the same everywhere.
- Ask for a review after every job and reply to every one.
If you're in Queensland, my local SEO checklist for Queensland tradies walks through the profile setup step by step.
Titles, headings and internal links
- Page title: trade, suburb and business name, for example "Fencing in Buderim | Your Business Name".
- H1: say what the page is about in plain words, like "Fencing in Buderim".
- Link related pages together. Each suburb page links to the services you offer there, and each service page links to the areas you cover.
- Use descriptive link text like "pool fencing in Caloundra", never "click here".
Rebuilding? Don't lose what you've already got
If your current site ranks for anything, a rebuild can wipe that out overnight when the old page addresses just disappear. Every old URL needs a redirect to the closest new page. On Spray Pave Perth we redirected 80+ old links from the old WordPress site so nothing was lost. It's boring work, and it's the difference between a rebuild that grows your leads and one that tanks them.
Before you rebuild, list every page on your current site and where it will point on the new one. Do it before launch, not after the phone goes quiet.
This is the kind of site I build at Webb Media. Have a look at websites for tradies if you want me to take a look at yours.
